Home Made Remedies – Skin
I must confess I am the best target to all these TV publicities for hair and skin products. Looking at these young girls with glossy long hair and perfect skin in these adverts, I sprint to the closest store selling these miracle products that would make me look closer to Miss Universe. Pointless to say that my journey to the perfect product led to a lot of money wasted and disappointing results. In fact, my obsession with a perfect skin came from the jealousy I have towards my mom’s glossy smooth baby skin. Yes, my nearly 70 years old mom always had amazing skin and that’s thanks to… her kitchen components!
I remember coming back from school and not being able to kiss my mom as she would have weird things all over her face, neck and hair. Still, she is nothing else but the living proof that you do not need to spend a small fortune on beauty products to have the perfect skin or hair as homemade beauty treatments are already in your own home!
I will share with you some of the best kept secrets of skin and hair care products that are 100% home made and that would make you reconsider going to a high end brand for your beauty products.
SKIN
Living in a cold or hot or humid environment affects our skin dramatically. And even though we can’t see it on a daily basis in the mirror, in the long run and over the years these weather conditions will have a drastic effect on our skin. Indeed, not looking after our skin, which is our largest organ, could lead to early skin wrinkling, black spots, acne, you get the picture. Here I give you a couple of easy, cheap and practical home made face mask you will end up swearing by.
Egg White Face Mask: This is the easiest face mask ever and my mom’s favorite! Get an egg and crack in half separating the egg yolk and the white. The egg yolk will not be need in here so perhaps you can use it for a snack. Wisk the egg white with a fork and apply it to your face and neck using a soft cotton ball. Leave for 15-30min (or until you feel it dry on your skin) and rinse with cool water (not hot!). Doing this at least once a week will make your skin softer as well as minimizing acne.
Avocado, Egg and Lemon Face mask: This is one of my favorites as it brightens your skin and well as giving it a plumy feel. Remove the skin of 2 avocados and mix them with an egg white and the juice of squeezed lemon. Once the mixture is well incorporated, spread the equivalent of 2 teaspoons on your face and leave for 10-15min and rinse with cool water. The remaining mixture could be conserved in a perfectly sealed container and kept in the refrigerator of a few days. I personally make this mask every other day and it made my skin smoother and a lot less oily. Skipping the lemon juice, this mixture could also be used for your hair allowing it to restore it’s natural moist.
Brown Sugar face Scrub: Another ingredient in your kitchen that we usually use for delicious pastries, could also help you have a nice smooth and exfoliated skin: Brown Sugar. Once out of the shower, and while your face pores are still open from your hot bath, lightly dry your face and then rub the thick grains of the brown sugar on your face until then soften. Rinse your face with cool water and apply your regular face lotion.
