As a woman in the workplace there is always a fine line we have to tread between being stylish and suitable, feminine but powerful and having personality in our work wardrobe whilst looking professional. It is very difficult to find any ensembles that fall into this category and it is very easy to get the balance wrong.

There is a reason why the skirt suit has been a staple for savvy business women worldwide for decades and that is because it manages to look feminine, professional and stylish. Though fundamentally the same style the modern skirt suit is a far cry from the boxy numbers working women were rocking in 80’s.

The modern reincarnation of the skirt suit sees the waist cinched with sharp tailoring and shoulders to balance out hips and give you the illusion of a teeny tiny waist. Skirts are also sharply tailored, with knee length hemlines, high waists and hidden zips for a streamlined silhouette.

Keep the style classy and minimalist with a monochrome palette, grey, white and black only. Save the brights for after hours. Pair with a crisp white collared blouse, pointed pumps and a chunky silver man style watch during the winter months then rock the look with a pair of minimal nude strappy heels and a floaty silk blouse and a chunky gold bangle for the warmer months.

If you are feeling daring, take the look from the boardroom to the bars for a night on the town by rocking the jacket sans blouse and adding a sky high pair of sparkly stilettos, a slick up do and a pair of giant sparklers in your ears. Just be sure to have Hollywood tape on standby to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions!
