Why Growing Old Is Better Than You Think

People often want to ignore, not think about and even fear growing old. No one wants to think about wrinkles, receding hairlines and not being able to do the same physical activity you love so much. However, that is the negative way to look at things. Studies show that older people are, in fact, more content than younger people are and here are some of the reasons why.

You Grow Wiser With Age

Young people tend to have multiple stresses and anxieties about a whole range of things, including romance, friends, finances, careers, education and so on.. however older people have gained the experience through the years to not sweat the small stuff so much. Time has taught them that you don’t have to be the best in everything you do for everything to turn out OK in the end, and there is simply no need to put yourself under a high amount of pressure. To put it another way, as people get older they get better at seeing the larger picture.

You May Live A Healthier Lifestyle

There are a range of examples of people over the age of 50 that are a lot healthier (and therefore happier) to people decades younger than them. As people get more conscious about their health, they tend to exercise more and eat better. This is really beneficial in helping people not only physically, but mentally too.

You’re Likely To Sleep Better

Older people are often known to be full of life and experience the day to the fullest. Studies show that retired people are much happier with their sleeping pattern than their younger counterparts. Believe it or not, the lack of sleep you may experience due to going out or studying when you are younger can have bad effects on your mental health. However, retired people are able to be much more structured in their sleeping habits.

You Have More Time To Travel

As older, retired people may have more spare time on their hands – it is a great time to explore new places and travel the world, as you no longer are confined to an allocated amount of days in the year that you can have off work. You can also put your time into volunteering and helping others across the world.

More Power Over Big Decisions

It is a known fact that the UK has an aging population, as there are more Britons than ever are in their 60s, 70s and 80s. This has it’s advantages, as it means that older people have the real power over relevant decisions that are made, and their needs are being increasingly more met by businesses, advertisers and politicians. How much more fun will life be when your needs and desires are of the majority vote? You and your generation can make a real change.

We hope we’ve made you feel a little less nervous about growing older – as we hope you know after reading today’s blog, it’s not anywhere near as bad as it may seem.
